Abstrakt     Agitation is a common behavioural disorder in patients with dementia for which caregivers often wants medical help. There are many different causes for agitation which require different measures. Whenever agitation cannot be alleviated with nonmedical measures, treatment with different psychotropic drugs is required. Demented people are especially sensitive for side-effects of psychotropic drugs, therefore an appropriate drug must be carefully selected. Nowadays an extensive choice of drugs, described in this article, is available.
