Abstrakt		Introduction: Short abstract of drug lists forming and drug utilization in Slovenia where a good system of automatic processing of prescriptions is used. It makes the exact analyses of the number of prescriptions written, packs of the drugs and expenses possible. The EKZ classification is still used, but the ATC classification is used more and more. The drug utilization in DDD's hasn't been shown in Slovenia yet. The data on most frequently prescribed drugs in 1998 are shown, too. Aims: - to show the cardiovascular drugs (CVD) (ATC group C) utilization in Slovenia in DDD's/1000 inhabitants/day in the period 1992-1998 - to make the analyses of the data acc. to the age, sex and regions - to show each subgroup and individual drugs - to compare the results with other countries Results: The whole CVD utilization is 207,8 DDD's in 1998. The plain ACEinhibitors (57,8 DDD's), calcium antagonists (31,7 DDD's) and diuretics (17,1 DDD's) are predominating. The utilization is growing up according to the age. Women are prescribed more drugs than men. There are important differences among regions up to 25 % acc. to average. If we have international comparisons in mind we don't prescribe many cardiac glycosides but the prescribing of nitrates is growing up. The utilization of diuretics is suitable. But the beta receptor blockers are not prescribed enough. The prescribing in Slovenia is 4 times lower than in Finland. The prescribing of peripheral vasodilators is too high. The whole CVD utilization grew up for two thirds in the period of 6 years. But such a quick growing is stopping now and many changes in the structure of the prescribed drugs are seen. There are many drugs which were not in accordance with modern pharmacotherapy which are not prescribed any more. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
