Abstrakt | Background. We evaluated the dynamics of triple hormone testing for Downs Syndrome in Slovenia and the preliminary results of pregnancy complications presented by women with false positive results. Material and methods. The analysis comprised of 3565 maternal serum samples obtained between 1996 and 2000. Documentation of pregnancy complications was summarized from a questionnaire. Results. The annual number of women opting for the triple hormone test continues to grow. Upon analysis of the results for the years 1997 and 1998 no co-relationship between a false positive result and complications in the ongoing pregnancy were proven. Conclusions. In its 5 year history in Slovenia the triple hormone test has shown itself to be a useful clinical tool uncovering pregnancies affected with Downs Syndrome, however the effectiveness of the test can be optimised depending on the accuracy of the feedback information obtained by the obgyn. | |
