Abstrakt     Hereditary angioedema is a rare dominant autosomal blood disorder, associated with a lack or malfunction of the C1 esterase inhibitor. The disease is manifested by a sudden severe local increase in the permeability of blood vessels with consequent swelling of affected tissues. The most frequently involved areas are fingers and toes, the abdomen, female genitalia and the facial region. The most serious complication is laryngeal oedema which may lead to suffocation. Attacks are precipitated by physical trauma, emotional stress and anxiety. The treatment of choice during an acute attack is intravenous injection of a C1 esterase inhibitor concentrate. Patients with hereditary angioedema must be treated in facilities where interdisciplinary care can be provided. The authors present a female patient suffering from hereditary angioedema who was in need of dental treatment.
