Abstrakt     For penicillin-allergic patients, macrolide antibiotics are the drugs of choice for the treatment of streptococcal infections. The aim of this contribution is to present the development of resistance to erythromycin in strains of beta-hemolytic streptococci isolated in Pomurje, Slovenia, in the period from 1997 to 2000. The percentage of resistant group A strains rose from 1.7% to 10.3% and the percentage of resistant group B strains from 4.0% to 18.4 %. The resistance of group G strains was very common, ranging from 53.6 to 64.9%. The most prevalent phenotype of macrolide-lincosamide resistance was constitutive resistance. Some strains were multiply resistant to several unrelated antibiotics.
