Abstrakt     Chlamydial infections of the genital tract are presumably the most frequent curable sexually transmitted infections in Slovenia. Very low reported incidence rates, resulting from underreporting, do not reflect the true burden of these infections in the population. Four Slovenian studies with conveniently sampled female patients reported prevalence ranging from 6% to 16,5% and two studies with conveniently sampled healthy young males reported a prevalence of 3,2% and 2,1%. Data about ectopic pregnancies, in part resulting from previous chlamydial infections, can indirectly indicate the burden of these infections. The results of a survey conducted in a representative sample will provide reliable data on the distribution of sexually transmitted chlamydial infections in the general population of Slovenia.
