Abstrakt		A pulse oximeter is an instrument that measures the oxygen saturation in blood by means of spectrometric analysis. The paper deals with the modes of oxygen transport from the atmosphere to the tissue that are important for proper interpretation of the results of continuous monitoring and describes some technical precautions to be taken to assure accurate measurements.
