| Abstrakt | | In many European countries phytotherapy is integrated in the conventional medicine. The largest part of phytomedicines belongs tothe OTC medicinal products and their use continues to grow every year. They play an important role in self-medication; especially in Germany, the leading country in the field of phytatherapy, phytomedicines are also prescribed by physicians as supplement treatment. Phytomedicines must comply with the same quality, safety and efficacy requirements as conventional medicinal products. There is an increasing number of controlled clinical studies on phytomedicinesor standardised herbal medicinal products.
