Abstrakt     In order to evaluate the use of FES stimulators provided to patients as orthoses for home use and their influence on the patients' abilities and quality of life, a questionnaire was developed and sent to 135 patients after spinal cord injury who had been rehabilitated at our rehabilitation institute. A total of 50 completed questionnaires were returned. It was found that the great majority of patients who received FES as an orthotic aid also used it at home. FES enabled them to perform functions that they would not be able to perform otherwise, such as walking, and also had many other positive effects, for instance decreased spasticity, better digestion, less pain and fewer urinary infections. The most frequently reported problems were short duration of batteries, breaking of electrodes and cables, time-consuming application and muscle fatigue. It can be concluded that FES improved the functions and quality of life of the selected patients.
