Abstrakt     The goal of this study was to evaluate a strategy to prevent cross-transmission of MRSA in a 10-bed medical intensive care unit (ICU) of a university hospital with a high level of endemic MRSA. Screening for MRSA carriage was performed in all patients admitted to the ICU. The incidence of ICU-acquired MRSA cases was compared between a 10-month period before and 6-month period after the implementation of control measures on November 1, 2000. The control measures included decolonization of patients suspected to be colonized or infected with MRSA. The implementation of control measures in our study significantly decreased the incidence of transmission of MRSA, thus confirming that early screening for carriers and infection control measures can significantly decrease the incidence of transmission of MRSA in an ICU.
