Abstrakt     In Slovenia the women with no prenatal care had 13 times more very preterm deliveries (VPTD), were less educated, more often unemployed and younger. In the transition period from the planned to market economy the health and social security systems changed. There has been a decrease from 7.3% to 6.5% of gross national product given for health care. Voluntary health insurance has increased up to 0.9%, but solidarity has decreased. This might mean exclusion of marginal groups and/or lowering of the basic rights of health insurance. To reach thw population at the highest risk social and other services should help reduce informal injustice. Family planning is extremely important in preventing VPTD. The most important is education of each individual at all possible levels.
