Abstrakt		Dolenjska is a region with well developed viniculture and spirits production. Research of causes of death directly or indirectly attributable to alcohol in Dolenjska and in the rest of Slovenia was performed. Data source on mortality (1991-1996) has been the national statistics of the Institute of Public health of the Republic of Slovenia. Mortality rate was considered for three age groups 20-4.4, 45-64 and 65 years and more, for each gender separately. The results of the research point out the most important statistical difference between Dolenjska and the rest of Slovenia for men in the age group 45-64 years. The younger and the older group of men and the older group of women show minor differences. Alcohol policy on the national level must be based upon the prevention of drinking alcohol among young people, treatment of alcoholics and upon the specifity of some regions, where people produce alcohol drinks by themselves.
Izvleček		Dolenjska je dežela vinogradov in domače žganjekuhe. Prikazujemo umrljivost zaradi vzrokov smrti, ki se neposredno ali posredno pripisujejo alkoholu na Dolenjskem in v ostali Sloveniji. Podatki o umrlih so zbrani iz zbirke o umrlih Inštituta za varovanje zdravja za leta 1991-1996. Umrljivost se računa ločeno po spolu in treh starostnih skupinah 20-44, 45-64 ter 65 let in več. Rezultati raziskave kažejo statistično najpomembnejše razlike v umrljivosti zaradi vzrokov smrti, ki se pripisujo alkoholu med Dolenjsko in ostalo Slovenijo za moške v srednji starostni skupini. Manjše razlike so v mlajši in starejši starostni skupini moških in starejši starostni skupini žensk. Dolgoročna nacionalna politika na področju alkohola bo morala temeljiti na preprečevanju uživanja alkohola med mladimi, zdravIjenju že odvisnih od alkohola in na specifičnosti določenih regij, kjer Ijudje sami izdelujejo alkoholne pijače.
