Abstrakt     Because it is difficult to measure the overall health status of patients, a series of questionnaires has been developed in recent years to measured the functional status of patients attending consultations in general practice. Functional status is the ability of the individual to function in and adapt to the environment. Changes in the functional ability of patients attending consultations in general practice are often concealed and unrecognisable. The prompt diagnosis leads to a better quality of life. The use of the questionnaires can lead to recognition. In order to evaluate the functionality of the translated COOP questionnaire, the author measured the psychometric qualities of a sample of Slovene consulters and non-consulters. To evaluate the acceptability and validity of the questionnaire, 150 patients (attending consultation in general practice) were asked to fill in the questionnaire, and an equal number of non-consulters received the questionnaires by mail. To evaluate the reliability and sensitivity of the questionnaire, both groups were asked to fill in the same questionnaire after 14 days. Both groups and physicians gave their opinion regarding the questionnaire. Consulters, non-consulters and physicians found the questionnaire to be acceptable. The questionnaires, construct validity was confirmed by the results which showed that the functional ability of the consulters was lower than that of nonconsulters; in four out of nine elements the results were statistically worse. The reliability of the questionnaire was proven - the evaluations by non-consulters remained unchanged after 14 days, whilst the mental status improved. (Abstract trunacted at 2000 characters).
