Abstrakt | In the frames of our research study personality and social factors in postpartum depressive syndrome and their significance in minor and major postpartum depressions were examined. In the frames of postpartum depressive syndrome, the following categories were scrutinized: postpartum blues, postpartum neurotic depression and postpartum major depressive episode. In the research study, three groups of postpartum women were included: 1st control group of non-depressed postpartum women and two experimental groups, 2nd group of depressed non-hospitalized postpartum women and 3rd group of depressed hospitalized postpartum women. The groups were matched as regards the number of subjects (N 30), age, educational level, material status and nationality. In all three groups of postpartum women, psychiatric interview was performed, social data were gethered by means of an psychiatric interview, and relevant psychological dimensions measured by personality questionnaires. The data on personal and health development were gethered by means of a structured anamnestic interview. The results and statistical comparison allow the following more important conclusions: a) The first group of non-depressed postpartum women was characterized by the following: settled socio-economic status, good partner relationship, wished-for pregnancy, rarely occuring postpartum blues. The women in this group were breast-feeding their infants for longer periods and were well informed of the importance of emotional factors after childbirth. Their attitude towards their children was positive. They came from well functioning primary families. In most cases, no disorders in personal development were detectable, and their experiencing of generative period was positive. b) The group of depressed but not hospitalized postpartum women was characterized by the following: equally settled socio-economic status as in the first group, good patner relationship was less frequent, pregnancy was less wished-for.(trunc.) | |
