Abstrakt     The article presents a summary of new guidelines for managing chronic heart failure in clinical praxis, placing stress on treatment. Because of new findings, a concurrent use of several medications is recommended. In addition to improving the signs and symptoms (diuretic, digoxin) they also prolong survival (ACE blockers, beta-receptor blockers, spironolactone). Angiotensin II receptor antagonists (AIIA) are likewise becoming top medications for heart failure treatment. Because of the favourable effects of a good combination of medications on one hand and the danger of their improper use on the other, it is important that we are familiarised with the guidelines. After all, liability could be an issue. However, the time lag between the date of the publication of guidelines and their extensive implementation in practice ought to be reduced.
