Abstrakt | Diagnosis of mild asthma relies on the patient's history - the physician must inquire about cough, dyspnea, chest tightness, wheezing, nighttime awakenings and exertional symptoms. Unfortunately, a substantial proportion of patients do not perceive their symptoms or even disregard them; therefore, we need to assess the severity of their disease by objective means, spirometry being the first choice. If the resting FEV1 is less than 80% predicted, the disease is no longer defined as mild asthma and more aggressive treatment is needed.
