Abstrakt		Alcoholism is one of the most frequent forms of addiction among the population of Slovenia, and affects all age groups. Alcoholism, or addiction to alcohol, was declared to be a disease by the World Health Organization and the World Medical Association some time ago. This disease requires treatment methods that are somewhat different from those used in treating other somatic diseases, given that alcoholics refuse to admit - either to themselves or to those in their milieu - that they are patients, and that as such they need treatment. This basic relationship between alcoholics - as patients - and their physicians spawns many conflict situations, which in turn bring about numerous ethical dilemmas. A second trigger of ethical questions is the physician's attitude towards alcoholics, as the latter are considered by many physicians to be an unnecessary evil rather than merely patients.
Izvleček		Alkoholizem je ena izmed najpogostejših oblik zasvojenosti med slovensko populacijo vseh starostnih skupin. S strani Svetovne zdravstvene organizacije ter Svetovnega zdravniškega združenja sta bila alkoholizem oz. odvisnost od alkohola že pred časom opredeljen kot bolezen. Ta bolezen zahteva nekoliko drugačen način zdravljenja kot ostale somatske bolezni, kajti alkoholik ne priznava sebi niti svoji okolici, da je bolnik in kot tak potreben zdravljenja. Prav iz tega izhodišča med njim kot bolnikom in zdravnikom nastajajo številne konfliktne situacije, ki sprožajo številne etične dileme. Drugi sprožilec etičnih vprašanj je zdravnikov odnos do alkoholika, ki ga mnogi še zmeraj jemljejo kot nepotrebno zlo in ne kot svojega bolnika.
