Abstrakt     The investigation covered 50 patients with spinal cord injury (SCI), suffering from decubital wounds in the sacral area. In 25 patients the wounds were stimulated by using biphasic electric current while the remaining 25 patients received conservative treatment. In five patients from each group a qualitative and a quantitative histological analyses of the tissue samples taken from the border of the wound were performed before the beginning of treatment and after almost two months. The wounds that had been treated by electrical stimulation showed a lower inflammatory response, a higher wound healing velocity, a higher collagen density as well as a more intense process of angiogenesis.
