Abstrakt     In the past, germander (Teucrium chamaedrys L.) was consid Bred a useful medical plant. Its use culminated after 1980 in France, where it was short of being classified among official drugs and approved as safe and efficient component of phi topharmaceutics. Preparations were o be used as an auxiliary means for dieting, treating, diarrhoea and mouth washing. The increasingamount of information on poisonings from preparations of germander resulted in the prohibition on sales and use of this plant. Its active agents diterpene compounds, contain furan loops, whose hepatotoxicity (poisonous for the liver) has been confirmed. Today the use of germander is very dis suaded, and in addition the indications mentioned by folk medicine have never been confirmed.
