Abstrakt     Bronchoscopy plays an important diagnostic and therapeutic role in pulmonary medicine. Slovenia, with two million citizens, has eight centres with pulmonary departments and 20 active bronchoscopists. There are also some specialists in internal medicine as well as thoracic surgeons, anaesthesiologists and paediatricians who perform this procedure. A national survey of bronchoscopic procedures has been conducted to assess the common practice and variability in performance of bronchoscopy in Slovenia. A structured questionnaire was sent to 48 physicians. Data collected from the questionnaire has been analysed. The number of procedures, performed each year by bronchoscopists, especially pulmonologists, shows that there seems to be no lack of expertise in routine bronchoscopy. The practice of bronchoscopy varies greatly between different specialists because of different indications of endoscopy. Therapeutic procedures seemed to be gaining momentum and new facilities such as endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and autofluorescence bronchoscopy (AFB) are also available.
