Abstrakt     Burnout as a consequence of professional overwork is not just a consequence of the impact of stresses and stressors on working place, but a complex construc of numerous factors such as personal characteristics of individuum and certain conditions of working environment. It has been proved that difficult working conditions are less stressful if an individual has a greater feeling of his own efficiency and competence, based on self-assessment and objective work results. Via its own mechanisms of assessment (control, autonomy, personal reposibility, feed-backinformation), working environment can act in a positive or negative sense. Working conditions which limit autonomy and authority make a feed-back information on performed tasks impossible. Prevention of burnout does not merely concern an individual, who in his/her own way tries to reduce the effects of stress (for example, with physical activity, meditation, consumption of alcohol or sedatives) but is primarily the concern of working environment which should allow enough autonomy for the individual.
Izvleček     Izgorelost (angl. burnout) kot posledica poklicne preobremenjenosti ni enostavna posledica delovanja stresov In stresorjev ne delovnem mestu, temveč kompleksen konstrukt, sestevljen iz številnih dejavnikov, kot so osebnostne lastnosti posameznika in določeni pogoji delovnega okolja. Dokazano je, da so težki delovni pogoji manj stresni, če ima posameznik večji občutek lastne učinkovitosti in pristojnosti, ki ju lahko spremlja s samoocenjevanjem in objektivnimi rezultati dela. Delovno okolje lahko prek svojih mehanizmov ocenjevanja (kontrola, avtonomnost, osebna odgovornost, povratna informacija) deluje v pozitivnem ali v negativnem smislu. Delovni pogoji, ki omejujejo avtonomijo in avtoriteto, onemogočajo povratno informacijo o opravljenih nalogah. Preprečevanje izgorelosti ni samo stvar posameznika, ki na sebi lsten način omejuje delovanje stresa na primer s telesno dejavnostjo, meditacijo, uživanjem alkohola ali pomirjeva),temveč predvsem delovnega okolja, ki mora posamezniku dopuščati dovolj avtonomije.
