Abstrakt     The aim of this study was to define parameters of the electrical stimulation of the nervus dorsalis penis (NDP), which would enable us to relevantly describe and compare characteristics of the cortical somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) on stimulation of the NDP. Twenty-one healthy males volunteered as subjects. In every-one of them cortical evoked potentials on stimulation of the sural nerves were first recorded, as they had already been well described and could be used as control recordings to cortical evoked potentials on stimulation of the NDP which was performed afterwards. Intensities stimulating either the sural nerve or the NDP were subjectively and objectively defined; the basis of the latter was the intensity which made a stimulus felt and recognised (sensibility thresold - ST), while SEPs were recorded at stimulating the sural nerves with twice the ST and the NDP with the current of 2-4ST. The objectively defined intensity of the stimulus for the sural nerve was current which evoked neurogram of a maximal amplitude (MN), and for the NDP the current, which produced the bulbocavernosus reflex response (BCR). The NDP was stimulated on the left, central and right side of the penis, the sural nerve behind the left and the right ankle. Cortical evoked potentials were registried by means of three active electrodes C3', C4', Cz' placed and fixed on the scalp according to the international 10-20 EEG standard, and referenced to the electrode on Fz. Differences in the sensibility thresold on the penis were small among individual subjects. For a 0.3 ms long rectangular impulse at 1 Hz the ST was between 1 and 6 mA, and quite similar to the ST behind the lateral ankles. The BCR thresold, measured at 1 to 40 mA, varied considerably among individual subjects. Cortical evoked potentials on stimulation of the NDP, and in the majority of subjects also on stimulation of the sural nerve, began with a positive wave (P40).(trunc.)
