Abstrakt		Thermoplastic obturation systems are an alternative to classical root canal fillings. The root canal is filled with hot gutta percha, which is then condensed laterally and, when necessary, also vertically before cooling. Obturation can be performed in one or more stages (one-shot or multi-shot technique). As numerous systems are available on the market, it is often difficult to decide which one to purchase. The method has several advantages and, naturally, also some disadvantages compared to classical fillings. Its main advantage is the possibility to use the one-shot technique. It is also superior to the classical method in the treatment of internal resorptions, apical ramifications and pulpo-periodontal communications. The disadvantages of thermoplastic obturation systems include high costs, contraction of gutta-percha during cooling, greater possibility of overfilling the canal, and transient pain due to extrusion of air in the periapical region. The effect of increased temperature on the sealer and periodontal tissue of the affected tooth has not been evaluated. All available systems require thorough training before clinical use.
