Abstrakt		New knowledge society introduces new trends that influence also the functioning of special libraries. Special librarians acquire in the knowledge economy new roles and they need to learn continuously be able to actively contribute to the progress in their organisations. In the article some types of adult education are mentioned with special reference to selflearning and its role in lifelong learning of librarians.
