Abstrakt     The user organization Mental Health Norway has its own crisis telephone line, and we have collected statistics from about 150.000 telephone calls since 1992. These figures give us some important information about client interests. We also have information from inquiries among smaller groups of clients about how they have experienced the treatment system. But the information so far is inadequate. From the telephone statistics we know that the callers estimated more than anything else, the support and security they felt during the conversation. From the other investigations we know that what clients to a great degree ask for is more information, strict practice of confidentiality, participation, more integrated treatment programs, flexibility, respect and time to talk. May be some of these qualities can only be offered from the professional treatment system in cooperation with user organizations. In any case the public help apparatus still has a lot to learn about client interests. To increase the competence we need arenas for equal interaction and dialog between different interests. And there is really a need for more research on the qualities the users themselves experiences, and what they want from the help apparatus.
