Abstrakt		Suicide and self-destructive behaviours are becoming a major public health issue in the industrialized world. In this AER project (Assembly of European Regions) professionals, politicians and administrators in seven different European regions (Dublin, Salzburg, Helsinki, Pecs, Trondheim, Vasteras and Umea) are engaged in a project aiming at a reduction of suicide and self-destructive behaviour. 'This is done by mobilizing political will and through exchange of knowledge and experiences amongst professional groups and NGO: s. Monitoring systems for suicide and parasuicide will be established and attitudes towards suicide and prevalence of suicidal ideation will be studied. Regional suicide prevention plans will be developed and implemented during the project period. The project has got support from the European commission.
