Abstrakt     One aim of the WHO/EURO Multicentre Study of Suicidal Behaviour is to generate information about attempted suicide in Europe. In this project, 10 centres have provided longitudinal data (1989 -1997/1998). Results: Highest suicide attempt rates were found in Gent (Belgium), Oxford (England & Wales) and Helsinki (Finland), lowest rates in Padova (Italy). Major decreases were evident for Stockholm (Sweden), Bern (Switzerland), Odense (Denmark), Sor Trondelag (Norway) and Umea (Sweden). Increases were shown for Wurzburg (Germany), Oxford (England & Wales) and Helsinki (Finland). Females and young people are particularly at risk of a suicide attempt.
