Abstrakt		The author presents the development of the pancreas from the formation of ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds to the final secondary extraperitoneal position of the gland. The relationship of the pancreas to adjacent organs, its ductal system, arterial supply, venous and lymphatic drainage and its sympathetic as well as parasympathetic pathways are described.
