Abstrakt     Even with modern imaging modalities and advanced surgical techniques, only about 20% of patients have disease potentially curable by resection. Most therefore require some form of palliation. Patients with pancreatic cancer require surgical palliation for jaundice, duodenal obstruction and pain. Hepaticojejunostomy combined with gastrojejunostomy offers effective palliation for irresectable pancreatic head cancer and can be performed with low mortality and acceptable morbidity rates. The goal of surgical palliation is to improve the quality of life of patients whose life expectancy does not exceed several months.
