Abstrakt     Problems and dilemmas ordering physical therapy, a family doctor is dealing with, have been discussed in this article. The difference between optimal and realistic goals of rehabilitation is described. Different methods of physical therapy with their indications, a family doctor is using with his every day's work, are presented. The role of kinesiotherapy as the key point for successful reestablishment of function and the importance of the patient's motivation for active co-operation in kinesiotherapy is critically pointed out. The most common contraindications are stated. In conclusion the importance of proper timing in starting and ending physical therapy is stressed and unnecessary prolongation of physical therapy for various reasons is criticised.
