Abstrakt     This study evaluated the thermal protection provided by suits made of metallized plastic sheeting (MPS) in a variety of environmental conditions. Four healthy male subjects participated in a total of 11 trials, simulating a range of possible outdoor scenarios. The rectal, esophageal and four skin temperatures, oxygen uptake, minute ventilation and heart rate were measured during 2 hour exposures in a climatic chamber. On the basis of these measurements, body heat storage and the rate of heat loss were also calculated: Only the mean skin temperature was significantly (P < 0.05) higher when the subjects wore the MPS suit above their light or heavy clothing. It was concluded that the main benefit of the MPS suit was attenuation of conductive and convective heat loss, and that its effect on radiative heat loss was negligible.
Izvleček     V pričujoči raziskavi smo ocenili toplotno zaščito, ki jo nudi alu folija gornikom v različnih simuliranih pogojih. Zdravi moški preiskovanci (N = 4) so sodelovali pri 11 poskusih. Pri vsakem poskusu smo posnemali določene pogoje. Med 2-urnim poskusom smo merili rektalno temperaturo, temperaturo v požiralniku, štiri kožne temperature, porabo kisika, minutni dihalni volumen in posneli elektrokardiogram. Na podlagi meritev smo izračunali izgubo telesne toplote. Samo povprečna kožna temperatura je bila značilno višja med poskusi; pri katerih so preiskovanci nosili alu folijo. Na podlagi rezultatov smo zaključili, da alu folija zrnanjša konduktivno in konvektivno izgubo toplote, vendar ne vpliva značilno na radiacijsko izgubo toplote. Zmanjšani konvektivna in konduktivna izguba toplote nista povezani z reflektivnostjo materiala, ampak z nepropustnostjo za vodo in zrak.
