Abstrakt     The paper discusses a transitional bog in the common Češeniška Gmajna near Domžale (central Slovenia), which was discovered a few years ago by the author. The bog is located in two small valleys (see the map) surrounded by an acidophilous forest of Scots Pine and Bilberry (Myrtillo pinetum austroalpinum). Most probably, the initial phase of the bog was a sub-association Myrtillo pinetum austroalpinum sphagnetosum developed on wet silicate ground. Parts of the bog are now at different stages of succession and, accordingly, different plant communities with bog plants can be found there. Drosera rotundifolia and Oxycoccos palustris are among the most common plant speeies in the bog. In Slovenian mountain bogs, they are obligatively ombrotrophic plants; but in the lowlands of Slovenia, they also grow in transitional bogs. Both are considered endangered plant species of Slovenian flora. Scheuzeria palustris (considered endangered) and Lycopodiella inundata (considered vulnerable) were found only in one site (marked with a circle on the map) together with a few specimens of Hammarbya paludosa (considered extinct because its presence in Slovenia has not been confirmed since the end of 19th century). The transitional bog in Češeniška Gmajna, the only known Slovenian locality of Hammarcarbya paludosa and a habitat of a few other endangered and vulnerable plant species is proposed to become a nature reserve.
