Abstrakt     This work have two studies: 1. Comparison of three different methods to confirm tracheal placement in emergency intubation; 2. Does the end-tidal carbon dioxide (petC02 ) pressure have prognostic value during out-of hospital cardiac arrest?. 1. Comparison of three different methods to confirm tracheal placement in emergency intubation Introduction Verification of endotracheal tube placement is of vital importance, since unrecognized esophageal intubation can be rapidly fatal ( death, brain damage). The aim of our study was to compare three different methods for immediate confirmation of tube placement: auscultation, capnometry and capnography in emergency conditions in the pre-hospital setting. Study ethics The study was approved by the Medical Ethics of the Republic Slovenia ( No.59/OS/00). The study was carried out in accordance with the principles of the Helsinki - Tokyo Declaration and the Code of Ethics of Slovene health workers. Desing and setting Prospective study was carried out between 1998 and 2001. Patients and methods Adult patients (> 18 years) who were intubated by emergency physicians in the treatment of cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, acute respiratory failure or airway protection were included in the study. Tube position was initially evaluated by auscultation .Capnometry was performed with infrared capnometry. Capnography was performed using a infrared capnograph. The examiners looked for the characteristic CO2 waveform, value of pecCOa in milimeters of mercury and clinical signs. Determination of final tube placement was performed using repeated direct visualization with laryngoscope. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
