Abstrakt     The authors describe the frequency of allergic and nonallergic hypersensitive reactions to food allergens and additives. They made a questionnaire on alimentary habits of children (from 2 to 19 years old) medically treated because of urticaria- angioedema syndrome at Children's Department in Maribor in time from Februar 2001 to Februar 2002. Among allergogenic foods, they established that these children ate much more citrus fruits and fruit yoghurt and drank industrially prepared juices with added vitamins. In Western Europe and the USA peanuts and seafood predominate among foods, while Coca-Cola was the most popular drink. Specific IgE to food allergens showed a greater frequency of allergy to wheat, cow's milk and egg white. Skin prick test established a higher frequency of allergy to egg white, cow's milk and citrus fruits. For children with fourth or fifth degree anaphylactic reaction to food allergens or for children, who have food allergy combined with allergy to aeroallergens, the authors recommend, that they carry an epinephrine autoinjector, because of the greater risk of severe anaphylactic reaction.
