Abstrakt     Preface: Most of the patients after spinal cord injury think that gait is the primal goal of the rehabilitation, despite the fact that few of them achieve functional walking with various orthotic devices. In last few years many rehabilitation centres have accepted new approach of learning locomotion by treadmill. It is based on extensive researches on motor control with mammals. Edgerton et al thought that plasticity and motor learning of nervous circle of spinal cord depends on supplying with specific sensoric input in combination with performance of motor exercise and repeating this exercise. Purpose: This article will introduce locomotion training and the course of the training at 3 individuals from suffered spinal cord injury. Methods: In locomotion training on treadmill 3 patients were included after incomplete spinal injury in the acute phase of rehabilitation. The technique that draws out those answers is similar at mammals: manual asis tance at steps, support and unload weight at walking on treadmill. Pacients were tested with manual muscle testing, balance scale and ability to walk on ground. Results: All three patients improved walking ability on ground and on tradmill. The improvement of the walking function was faster than the muscle strength and activety on manual muscle testing. Conclusion: Gait training on a treadmill is based on researches, showings that neuro-muscular system responses to sensoric information, gathered with walking. That kind of training brings new view on gait training after spinal cord injury.
