Abstrakt     Hantaviruses from the Hantavirus genus belong to the Bunyaviridae family of viruses and are important pathogens in humans. Evolutionarily, hantaviruses are closely related to various rodent species; which are their natural hosts. They cause two types of diseases: hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) in Eurasia, and hantaviruš pulmonary syndrome (HPS) in the Americas: HFRS is caused by the Haantaan (HTN), Dobrava (DOB), Seoul (SEO) and Puumala (PUU) viruses, which are carried by mice, rats and voles. HPS is caused by the Sin Nombre (SN) virus carried by rodent species in the Americas. HFRS is present in Slovenia and has been diagnosed for over 15 years. Epizootiologic research in Slovenia has revealed that HFRS is endemic in some geographic regions, where small mammals infected with hantaviruses have been found. Two hantaviruses have been identified as the cause of HFRS the Dobrava and Puumala viruses; this is reflected by two diseases of different severity, involving different antibody responses in humans. The clinical manifestations of hantavirus infections are sometimes hard to delineate from those caused by Leptospira or Rickettsia spp. and possible hantavirus infection needs to be confirmed by laboratory tests.
Povzročajo dve značilni bolezni: hemoragično mrzlico z renalnim sindromom (HMRS) in hantavirusni pljučni sindrom (HPS). HMRS povzročajo virusi Hantaan (HTN), Dobrava (DOB), Seoul (SEO) in Puumala (PUU), ki jih prenašajo miši, podgane in gozdne voluharice.
