Abstrakt     Among many scales for measuring functional independence in SCI patients, the FIM (Functional Independence Measure) scale is one of the most applicable. For that reason, the scale has been applied at the Institute for Rehabilitation since the beginning of March 2002. Until now, over 100 SCI patients have been assessed. In 60 patients, the FIM assessment was done at admittance and at discharge and the results are presented in the article. All FIM scores improved at discharge and the difference between admission and discharge was statistically significant (p<0.05). FIM scale is very useful for the follow-up of the same SCI patient. However, the FIM scores of different SCI patient are difficult to compare since the FlM score does not clearly state whether the patient has complete or incomplete SCI. In order to obtain a better comparison of results, additional scales need to be used. ASIA (American Spinal Injury Association) scale seems to be the most applicable for that purpose.
