Abstrakt     Background: Impairments used to be the most important to patients and physicians in rehabilitation. There are numerous methods to assess the body structure and body functioning. The influence of impairment, or the body structure and body functioning according to the new classification, on the quality of life is questionable. However, the inability to perform usua! activities, such as running, could decrease a patient's quality of life. During the last twenty years many different tools have been designed for measurements at the activity and participation level. They are useful in clinical practice and research as well as in health policy evaluation. Just few of these instruments have been tested for their reliability, validity and responsiveness. The article mentions the most important and widely used ones as well as non-specific and short forms for patients affer soft tissue knee injuries. The scales Short Form Health Survey (SF-36) and Oxford Knee Status (OKS) were tested together with isokinetic dynamometric measurements in a small specific group of patients. Methods: The isokinetic dynamometry of knee muscles was done and the questionnaires SF-36 and OKS were administered to 13 patients at the end of the rehabilitation process. They had been referred to the outpatient physical therapy department after surgical conservative or operative treatment of soft tissue knee injury in the previous six months. The patients' main characteristics were assessed by a descriptive statistical method. The results showed relation between the dynamometric values of knee extensor muscle strength with the Oxford knee score as well as with the Short form-36 questionnaire score. The correlation between pain items of each scale and dynamometric values was to be determined. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
