Abstrakt     Laryngeal tube is a new supraglottic ventilatory device that secures airways and provides ventilation. lt is usually used for minor surgical procedures in general anaesthesia and could also be used for emergency airway management because of the simple handling it offers. Laryngeal tube and Combitube are very similar. Still, the use of the laryngeal tube is more simple, since it only has one lumen and that also comes in smaller sizes for children. The aim of study: The aim of study was firstly to assess whether the laryngeal tube can provide sufficient ventilation and oxygenation in patient undergoing routine surgical procedures and secondly, the type and frequency of complications. Methods: The anaesthesia was induced with intravenous anaesthetics. With very small children, the induction was performed with inhalational anaesthetic. During the procedure, patients were mechanically ventilated and the anaesthesia was maintained deep enough to prevent the presence of airway protection reflexes. At the end of the procedure, the laryngeal tube was removed when patients were breathing spontaneously and had recovered airway protection reflexes. Results: The laryngeal tube provided sufficient ventilation and oxygenation in most cases (93,5%). With small children, where laryngeal tube No. 2 or less had to be inserted, the sufficient ventilation was achieved only if the chin lift was performed during the procedure or a new model of the laryngeal tube was used. With 1 patient, there was a small leak around the tube, but the ventilation was still satisfying. Nevertheiess, with 3 patients there was a large leak around the tube and it had to be changed. Laryngeal tube was mainly successfully inserted on the first attempt. In 15%, small corrections of the position were necessary. Discusion: The goal of our measures in emergenčy situations is to achieve an adequate oxygenation of the patient. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
