Abstrakt | The effect of alcohol on human organism and behaviour depends on the quantity of consumed alcohol, therefore its blood concentration. The responses of the or'ganism range from mild relaxation, loss of control, uncoordination, to dizziness, anaesthesia and coma. Since the consummation of alcohol per inhabitant in our country is very high compared to the other EU countries, there are many deaths due to the motor vehicle accidents, suicide, chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. We receive a number of acutely intoxicated patients in the emergency department. In our patients the most common cause of injury are falls from heights, fights, motor vehiele accidents, and sui'cide attempts. Blood alcohol concentration was not determined in all patients, so we can only speculate that the causes of injuries result from high blood alcohol concentrations. In the article, we also discuss the activities of medical care in alcoholised patients. | |
