Abstrakt     Introduction: Low back pain is a major problem of public health in all industrialized countries of the world, also in Slovenia. The cause of most low back pain is unknown. An important role in emergence and maintaining of low back pain have several risk factors, commonly known as biopsychosocial factors. Treatment itself consists of various approaches and therapies, including Low Back Schools (LBS). Work method: Testing the effect of LBS can be usefiul both for patients and therapists. Friderika Kresal's LBS has been attended by 568 patients, the testing group involves 200 randomly selected patients who attended LBS in 1999-2000. On entering the school and 6 months after the school they were asked to fill a specially prepared questionnaire. Results: 4 hypotheses were set, two of which - although contrary to our expectations - were rejected. Due to quite high average educational level of respondents the influence of education on low back pain is lost, while on the other hand the patierats with higher education better understand the significance of what they are taught and advised to prevent low backpain and take them into account in their everyday life. Probably because of a rather low share of workers with lower education and lower social status, our hypotheses that satisfaction with work has an influence on low back pain was not confirmed. Confirmed was the hypothesis that importantpsychosocial factors like satisfying private life, family and work place relations significantly vary before and after LBS (p<0.05) and have a significant influence on the intensity of low back pain. The hypothesis that reception of anal dealing with low back pain in patients and after LBS differ significantly, was in part confirmed and in part rejected. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
