Abstrakt     Introduction. Sepsis is a syndrom arising presumably as a consequence of excessive mediator release from an inciting inflammatory event. In sepsis multiple organs, remote from this inciting inffammatory event, including cardiovascular system, sustain an injury. Studies in both, humans and various animal models, confirm that in the heart, sepsis is accompanied by systolic and diastolic dysfunction. Majority of investigations have been focused on systolic dysfunction providing a good description of changes in sepsis , while left ventricular diastolic function remains less explored. The nature of changes in myocardial compliance in sepsis remains controversial. Some investigations suggested that myocardial compliance decreases in sepsis, some that it increases. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the effects of sepsis on diastolic function of the left ventriele in rats. We evaluated diastolic disfunction with changes in compliance. For this purpose we introduced the animal model of sepsis with peritonitis. Methods. Thirteen male Wistar rats, weighing 240-260 g, were used in these experiments; 5 healthy controls, 2 rats the 1-st day of sepsis, 5 rats 3- rd day of sepsis and 1 rat 7-th day of sepsis. Rats were made septic by intraperitoneal injection of a cecal slurry obtained from donor rats. In open chest animals, at 1-st, 3-rd and 7-th day after the induction of sepsis, simultaneously left ventricular pressure and left ventricular dimension were recorded at baseline and during increasing of afterload. We measured left ventricular pressure with micromanometer inserted through the apex, and assessed the left ventricular volume with ultrasonic crystals attached to the surface of the left ventricle. Standard left ventricular gressure-volume loops were genarated for healthy rats and for animals in sepsis. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
