Abstrakt		The results of systematic and cytogenetic studies on 8 species of the division Charophyta from different regions of Slovenia are presented. The chromosome number was determined: in Chara aspera (u = 14), C. baltica (n = 28) C. contraria (n 28), C. contraria var. capillacea (n = 14), C. delicatula (n = 28; 56), C. rudis (n = 28), C. vulgaris (n = 14; 28) and C. vulgaris var. inconnexa (n = 14). The species Chara baltica of Slovenia with respect to the chromosome number is described. From micro- and macro-observations there seems to be a correlation between the chromosome number and several between morphological characters which are employed in taxonomic determinations.
