Abstrakt		The thesis deals with the significance and role of non-governmental organizations (societies, associations, institutions) in Slovenia and their legal regulation and status as stipulated in the legislation of the Republic of Slovenia. It gives a brief account of the history and of the role of the state in the field of legislation, in particular in state funding. The operation of non-governmental organizations and its legal foundation is presented from the point of view of the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia and the rules of procedures of the associations as stipulated in the New Law on Associations. The funding of nongovernmental division and its tax policy are compared with similar bodies in other countries. This paper presents Cancer Patients Association of Slovenia as a typical example of a non-governmental organization in Slovenia.
