Abstract		Background: In Slovenia paediatric endocrinology was started by Prof dr. Leo Matajc at the Department od Paediatrics, Ljubljana in 1960. Development of d less th. agnostic and therapeutic procedures and heaIth care in some endocrine disorders in children and adolescents in the 30-year period are presented. Review: Modern treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus based on glucose monitoring and regular diabetic diet was introduced in l 963, while young diabetics have been treated with human insulin since l 985. Treatment of pituitary dwarfism by growth hormone extracted from human pituitary glands was started in 1969. Screening for congenital hypothyroidism began in 1981 and since 1985 it has been performed throughout Slovenia. Conclusion: The vaIue of the centralized treatment of endocrine disorders in children which are relatively rare, is emphasized, because of the availability of experienced personnel, appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and a team of consultants from different specialities.
