Abstract     Small intestinal mucosa of rats was tested for the presence of estrogen receptors. For determination of estrogen receptors 3Hestradiol 17-beta binding assay with or without excess 1 H-estradiol 17-beta was used. Three subcellular fractions icluding nuclei, microsomes and cytosol, were analysed. Some animals were pretreated with 1Hestradiol in order to determine whether it induces an increase in specific binding of estradiol. Estrogen receptors were never found, either in cytosol or in microsomes. The nuclear fraction obtained from the intestinal mucosa of non-treated animals, showed low specific binding (63fmol/mg of protein) while in rats treated with estradiol this value inaeased by approx. nine times as compared to control values (600fmol/mg).
