Abstract     The case report of a 36-year-old-female oral contraceptives user and smoker with lethal pulmonary embolism is presented. Factor V Leiden (FVL) mutation was detected post mortem in DNA isolated from paraffin-embedded tissues. Post mortem detection of FVL mutation and ethical and legal aspects of autopsy genetic screening are discusses.
