Abstract		In the first part of contribution the sort survey of the tragic fate in Slovenian psychiatry during the second world war and after it is give, when the occupier and the post-war regime practically destroyed already well developed Slovenian psyhiatric service. In the second part, the situation and the professional development of Slovenian psychiatry, wich follows the world development is shown. Author sees the place of psychiatry within medical science, neglecting in no way the psychological and social aspect of mental health and illness. He especialy calls attention to the fast development of neuroscience and psychopharmacology, wich could in future make possible a revolutionary advance of psychiatric diagnostic and therapy. Author stands for a general parctitioner, who should mostly treat also family disturbance and diseases in a similar way as it is the practice on the domain of"somatic"medicine.
