Abstract     Background: Most chromosome inversions are discovered by chance in examinations for sterility, abortions, still-births and malformations Method: The article presents a chromosome analysis from the culture of peripheral blood taken from a 28-year-old woman with three successive spontaneous abortions. Results: The chromosome analysis showed pericentric inversion in one of the chromosomes 10. A study of the patient's famity members established a similar chromosome anomaly in her mother. Conclusions: The pericentric inversion described can reduce the fertitity of bearers of this chromosome change, which probably causes the formation of a recombinative tie together with recombination and delection of such an extent that they prove fatal.
