Abstract     In 1985, in Slovenia only 23 sudden deaths (SD) were registered, 8 in newborns and 15 in adults. Reffering to data from USA (400.000-500.000 yearly) our country should have 4.000 SD yearly. In the international classificationof diseases and injuries thre is no appropriate heading for SD. The pfysician compliting the death certificate should in the case of unexpected and instantaneous death, as well as in cases where the patient dies within one or couple of hours register"sudden death"on the top of the application form under the article a).The same goes for the cases where the patient dies in the hospital or if the death was unexpected: a patient suffering from chronical, incurable disease. In the cases of SD with no data on the principal disease or other states, the diagnosis "sudden death" should be filled in under article c) as the main and unique disease. We are expecting from the University Institute for public health and social Welfare to gives us detailed instructions for collecting the data on SD Slovenia.
